Agriculture, the backbone of the state's economy. However, high levels of poverty, challenged by rapid urbanization and coupled with climate induced exposures like flood, heat waves and cold waves make it vulnerable. Climate change may further depress agricultural productivity, exacerbate rural poverty, and threaten regional food security.
Ascertaining to the climate change and its induced challenges for small and marginal farmers, a project on Krishi Navachar or “Farmer’s Adaptation Related Measures for Environmental Regeneration” (FARMER) has been conceptualized to demonstrate localized integrated agricultural solutions to the climate challenges. The project builds on the fundamental concept that farmers are responsive when solutions are local, visible, and delivered through trusted systems. The project is implemented by the Government of Uttar Pradesh. PPG Advisory LLP has been commissioned by the Gates Foundation to provide technical support for effective implementation of the project activities for the period of three years (15 Dec 2025 to 14 Dec 2028).

FARMER project endeavors to-
- Provide “validated evidence on integrated adaptation solutions” by establishing demonstration plots contextualized to the local agro-ecological farming systems that enhances farmers’ resilience towards climate induced exposures and risks
- To raise awareness amongst the small and marginal farmers on climate adaptation measures and innovations through farmer led extension, convergence and digital modes
- Demonstrate “unifying strategy for government led extensions system” that links climate adaptation to farm-level income gains, productivity enhancement, and mitigation co-benefits
- Enable adoption of “Scalable, replicable, and sustainable farm-level climate resilient innovations” by small and marginal farmers
State and District level coordination and support meeting at Gorakhpur and Ayodhya (27-28 Jan, 26)- Field visits and interaction with farmers, Women Self-Help Groups and KVK representatives for developing Climate Smart Model farms in Uttar Pradesh under the Krishi Navachar-FARMER project.
